The Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is arguably the most unique place in Africa for a safari. It's not a typical national park with marked roads and permanent camps. It's an aquatic labyrinth that transforms with the seasons, where floating camps shift position according to the floods and where modes of transport are as varied as the territory itself: mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), motorboat, walking on the islands, and game drives in the dry areas.

The Okavango Delta boasts a rare density and diversity of wildlife. Elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, and a multitude of birds coexist in an ecosystem where the water creates corridors of life impossible to find elsewhere in southern Africa. Chobe National Park

Chobe is elephant country. It boasts the largest concentration of elephants in Africa, with estimates exceeding 130,000 individuals in the region. Moremi occupies the eastern part of the Okavango Delta. It is the area where two ecosystems meet: the wetlands of the Delta on one side, and the forests and dry savannas on the other. Moremi is renowned for its lions, leopards, and African wild dogs, an endangered species of which Botswana is home to one of the largest populations in the world.

The Makgadikgadi Pans are the remnants of an ancient inland lake that once covered an area equivalent to Switzerland. What remains today is a vast expanse of salt and clay of an almost lunar whiteness, which during the rainy season (December to March) becomes the stage for one of the largest migrations of zebras and wildebeest in southern Africa. Hundreds of thousands of animals converge on these plains to graze on the fresh grasses brought by the rains, attracting predators in their wake.

During the dry season, the Makgadikgadi Pans are a starkly beautiful, mineral desert, inhabited by meerkats and herds of oryx. The nights are completely silent and dark, with some of the most spectacular starry skies on the continent.
