South Africa, the ideal safari destination
South Africa is the natural gateway to African safaris for French travelers. And for good reason: direct flights from Paris, no visa requirements, quality infrastructure, a variety of accommodations to suit all budgets, and exceptionally abundant wildlife. It's the destination that offers the most favorable conditions for experiencing a first safari in the best possible circumstances.
But South Africa isn't just a destination for beginners. It's also where our FGASA-certified guides began their adventures, having earned their professional qualifications here. The FGASA certification, the gold standard for safari guides in Africa, guarantees in-depth knowledge of ecosystems, animal behavior, and bush safety protocols. This is where it all began for Fundis'Africa.
The must-see parks for a South African safari
Kruger National Park
Kruger National Park is the ultimate symbol of the South African safari. Spanning over two million hectares, it is one of the largest parks in Africa and one of the best preserved in the world. The Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros) can be observed year-round in remarkable conditions. The park is divided into several zones with distinct ecosystems: the more forested South, rich in leopards and herbivores; the central region with its open plains where lions hunt in the open; and the wilder, less frequented North, home to rare species such as the African wild dog and the roan antelope, as well as a wide variety of birds for birdwatchers.
The private reserves adjacent to Kruger
Timbavati, Klaserie, Sabi Sand, Thornybush, Olifants West, Balule, Manyeleti: these private reserves border Kruger National Park directly, sharing open borders. The difference with the public park is fundamental. Here, off-road driving is permitted, but within limits. Night drives are allowed. The number of vehicles around an animal is strictly restricted. And walking safaris led by FGASA-certified professionals allow you to experience the bush at ground level, in all its intensity.
Sabi Sand is world-renowned for its leopards: several individuals habituated to vehicles can be observed within a few meters, in conditions unique in the world. Timbavati is known for its white lions, a rare genetic trait. Klaserie is more secluded and sometimes more affordable. Thornybush is ideal for families with children.
The KwaZulu-Natal region
KwaZulu-Natal is home to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, Africa's oldest national park, famous for saving the white rhino from extinction in the 1960s. It is one of the world's best destinations for observing both white and black rhinos in their natural habitat. The region also has a lower risk of malaria in certain areas, making it a popular choice for families with young children.
Why travel to South Africa with Fundis' Africa
South Africa is a favorite destination for our guides. Most of them were trained here, so it's a bit like coming home.
A safari in South Africa is best experienced with a guide who understands the territory in its depth, not just its surface.
Our FGASA-certified guides, fluent in both French and English, offer much more than just a list of observed species. They teach you to read the bush, anticipate behavior, and understand the delicate balance of this ecosystem. You'll leave with lasting memories, but also with a permanently changed perspective on the natural world.
Every safari in South Africa organized by Fundis'Africa is tailor-made: choice of park or reserve according to your budget and priorities, selection of accommodations according to your preferences, and a pace adapted to your desires. National park, all-inclusive lodge in a private reserve, or a combination of both: all options are possible!
Safari in South Africa with family, as a couple or with friends?
South Africa caters to all types of travelers. For families, certain reserves have a low risk of malaria, such as Madikwe or those in the KwaZulu-Natal region. These areas are therefore perfectly suited to young children. Family-friendly lodges offer drives adapted to the pace of young travelers and educational activities that transform every observation into a learning experience.
For couples, the private reserves of Makalali or Timbavati offer experiences of an intimacy and intensity that few destinations in the world can match. Sunrise over the savannah from a private deck, dinner under the stars in the bush, leopard sightings at dusk: South Africa knows how to create unforgettable moments for two.
For friends passionate about nature, wildlife photography, or hiking, Kruger and its adjacent reserves offer an inexhaustible diversity of experiences. Fundis'Africa designs each itinerary based on who you are, not just where you want to go.
