Northern Tanzania in 9 days: the classic tour in its most comprehensive version
This 9-day itinerary covers the four iconic parks of northern Tanzania, the one that connoisseurs cite as the most balanced combination for a first safari in East Africa.
The Serengeti
The Serengeti is one of Africa's largest and richest ecosystems, encompassing two million hectares of plains. It is the stage for the Great Migration, the annual movement of more than 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles. But the Serengeti offers much more than migration: some of the highest lion densities on the continent, cheetahs visible at dawn on the grassy plains, and leopards in the acacia trees.
The Ngorongoro crater
Ngorongoro is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, 600 meters deep and covering 260 km². Its permanent animal population, which cannot leave the crater, creates a unique concentration: lions, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, and one of the few remaining populations of black rhinoceros in Tanzania.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is renowned for its ancient baobab trees and elephants. During the dry season, the herds of elephants converging on the Tarangire River create spectacular scenes of animal density.
